Every year thousands of hikers traverse the Alps on foot on the famous Way of Saint James, that starts on the Marienplatz in Munich and terminates on the Piazza San Marco in Venice. This trek traverses the Alps, leads to the southern Dolomite areas and ends in the charming city of Venice.

Hiking to the hidden gems of Fundres

The trail ascends along a forest path, then continues on trail no. 20 in the direction of Lake Grindlbergsee, through the gorge of Dun anc scross the Engbergalmen mountain pastures. The trail runs along the river of Weitenberg and leads past the Untere and Obere Engbergalm alpine pastures. First stage: the isolated Grindlbergsee lake at an altitude of 2,485 m – after about 3 hours of walking.
Continue on trail no. 20 to the highest point of the circuit: the Seescharte mountain ridge at 2.591 m.
Descent to the quiet, picturesque Weitenbergersee lake
The crowning glory: fresh Alpine products and a fantastic view of the surrounding
mountains at the Weitenbergalm (1.958 m)
Return along trail no. 19 back to the Dun parking space (parking fee).
By the way, in high summer season, there is a shuttle service taking to the starting point at the head of the valley.
